St. Paul to be topic of Faith Formation Conference offerings
In celebration of the Jubilee Year of St. Paul, the 47th annual Faith Formation Conference, Nov. 21-22 at the Santa Clara Convention Center, will feature several workshops focused on the apostle:
• Margaret Riley-Nystrom, director of faith formation at St. Charles Borromeo in Livermore, will lead a workshop designed for catechetists looking to introduce St. Paul to elementary school children; Nov. 21, 9 -10:15 a.m.
• Four convention speakers, Bishop of San Jose Patrick Joseph McGrath, educator Eleanor Brown, Thomas Groome, professor of theology at Boston College, and author Kathy Hendricks will discuss the Church’s trials during the time of St. Paul, and how the modern Church can learn from those struggles. Nov. 21, 3:45 -5 p.m.
• Benedictine Father Stephen Coffey, administrator of Our Lady of Guadalupe Abbey in Pecos, N.M., will examine the major themes in St. Paul’s letters to the Romans and Corinthians and their relevance in developing a postmodern Christian spirituality; Nov. 22, 10 -11:15 a.m.
• Rawn Harbor, pastoral associate and liturgist at St. Columba Parish in Oakland, will lead a celebration of St. Paul in story, Scripture and song; Nov. 22, 1 - 2:15 p.m.
• Father David Pettingill, former pastor at St. Gabriel Parish in San Francisco, will discuss the autobiographical portions of St. Paul’s letters and examine how the apostle drew the strength to continue his vocation; Nov. 22, 1 - 2:15 p.m.
