Archbishop Of San Francisco Returns To Work After Surgery

Archbishop George Niederauer returned to the office on Monday following a period of recuperation after undergoing successful cardiac double by-pass surgery in Southern California on August 29.

Following a period of recovery at his residence in San Francisco, the Archbishop’s physician has allowed him to return to work on a part time basis.

The Archbishop marked his return by celebrating Mass with Chancery staff, who welcomed him with a round of applause. “I thank you for your prayers and ask you to continue them as I continue my recovery,” said the Archbishop, who returns to his regular work schedule in December.

Archbishop Niederauer ministers to the Catholics of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin counties. He was appointed San Francisco’s eighth archbishop December 15, 2005.
