CatholicVote announces 2021 Top 10 Courage Awards: names Archbishops Cordileone, Gomez

Today more than ever we need courageous leaders; men and women who stand up in the face of the extraordinary pressures we all feel. Their example gives the rest of us the moral courage to persevere.

That is how CatholicVote begins its post about the men and women upon whom it bestowed its 2021 Courage Awards.

The top of the CatholicVote list is San Francisco’s own Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone. “Does any prelate lead quite like Archbishop Cordileone?” asked CatholicVote, a national pro-life Catholic 501-c-3 organization.

Others named include:

  • Enes Kanter Freedom, NBA Boston Celtics basketball star who made a name for himself in 2021 by using his platform as one of the National Basketball Association’s longest-tenured centers to draw attention to human rights abuses, particularly in China;
  • Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch who took her state’s abortion restrictions to the Supreme Court in a case that could be the end of Roe v. Wade;
  • Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez about whom Catholic Vote stated “his courage has actually confirmed him as a spiritual father to millions of American Catholics.”
