Judge Roger Chan serves on the San Francisco Superior Court and has been recognized as the Wilmont Sweeney Juvenile Court Judge of the Year for 2022 by the Juvenile Court Judges of California1. Appointed in 2016 by Governor Jerry Brown, Judge Chan presides over family dependency and juvenile justice cases in the Unified Family Court. His background includes working as a deputy public defender in San Francisco and Alameda counties for ten years, and he played a key role in founding the East Bay Children’s Law Offices, a nonprofit providing legal representation to youth in the juvenile justice system12. His dedication to California’s youth and innovative approach to juvenile law have earned him this prestigious honor. Past recipients of this award include Judge Wilmont Sweeney and other distinguished jurists.
