Archdiocese of San Francisco Restorative Justice Coordinator

Julio has dedicated his life to supporting and rehabilitating those impacted by the criminal justice system, inspired by the loss of his half-brother to a drug overdose in 1995. For the past 15 years, he has served as the Restorative Justice Ministry Coordinator at the Archdiocese of San Francisco. In this role, he assists families affected by crime, supports families with loved ones in jails and prisons, works on violence prevention, and aids in the rehabilitation of individuals released from jails and prisons in Marin, San Mateo, and San Francisco counties, as well as the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. Archdiocese of San Francisco Restorative Justice Coordinator

The Catholic Church Restorative Justice Ministries in California envision a society healed from divisiveness and fear that responds to crime and violence with restoration and healing so that every person can experience a dignified and plentiful life. This bold mission requires all people of goodwill to advocate for justice, bring awareness to the realities of crime and violence, and support those who have caused harm and those who have been harmed. For than 20 years, the Restorative Justice Directors of the Catholic dioceses throughout California have set forth a unique state-wide collaborative model to provide direct services, awareness and advocacy for restorative justice and restorative practices. This panel will discuss the role of Restorative Justice Ministries today to live out this mission of the Church, and how their community- focused collaborative model gives hope for the future.
