Crime Survivors Speak

Maria Esperanza Navas, Survivor of Homicide Victim

Esperanza Navas has indeed made a significant impact through her work. After the tragic loss of her son, Miguel Angel Serrano, she began dedicating her time to mentoring youth at the San Francisco Juvenile Justice Center. Her commitment to supporting and guiding young people has been a cornerstone of her efforts. Currently, Esperanza is involved with the Excell Network, a program under the Archdiocese of San Francisco’s Restorative Justice Ministry. This program provides scholarship stipends to formerly incarcerated students, helping them pursue their educational goals and reintegrate into society. Her story is a powerful example of turning personal tragedy into a force for positive change.
