Father Sebastine Bula installed as pastor at St. Rita Catholic Church

By Catholic San Francisco

On December 14, amidst the glow of candlelight in the storm-darkened church, Archbishop Salvatore J. Cordileone installed Father Sebastine Bula, VC, as pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church in Fairfax, St. Cecilia Church in Lagunitas, and St. Mary’s Church in Nicasio. The installation Mass, held at St. Rita Church, brought together parishioners and clergy from across the Archdiocese.  Members of parishes that Father Bula had previously served also attended, including the choir from Our Lady of Mercy in Daly City. The Archbishop was joined by 21 concelebrating priests.

Father Andrew Ginter, chaplain at Marin Catholic High School and dean of the local Deanery, read Father Bula’s appointment letter.

Following the homily, the Archbishop presented Father Bula to the parish leadership, including the parish council and staff. Father Bula then made an oath of fidelity to the teachings of the Church and led his new parishioners in the Creed.

Archbishop Cordileone expressed gratitude to Father Bula for accepting the role as pastor of the three parishes.  He also thanked the many Nigerian priests for their service in the Archdiocese and their witness to the vibrancy of their faith in the midst of the persecutions in their home country.

Following the Mass, a reception was held in the church hall, where a member of the parish council member welcomed Father Bula to the parish. Father Bula extended his thanks to Archbishop Cordileone for his support. The Knights of Columbus also honored Father Bula with an award for his service as chaplain of the St. Francis Chapter, which covers the San Francisco Bay Area.
