Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church celebrated their 60th anniversary of the dedication of their Church by Archbishop McGuckin on Sunday, April 7, 2024. In the homily during the jubilee Mass celebrated by Fr. Roy Remo, pastor of Holy Name parish, gave thanks to God for the many sacramental graces received by so many over the years as well as the service of the many pastors and other lay faithful at the parish.
The church holds an important role in the history of the Archdiocese as Archbishop Joseph McGucken used the church during the construction of the new Cathedral for important events such as ordinations to the priesthood.
The jubilee celebration brought together in prayer current and past pastors and clergy, including Father Don D’Angelo; Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School students and alumni; as well as civic leaders. During Mass, representatives brought symbols forward to the altar to honor those who had received the sacraments of baptism, marriage, anointing of the sick, and received Holy Eucharist at the parish. Also honored were those who had held their funerals at the church.
At the end of Mass, there was a blessing of a plaque commemorating the 60th anniversary of the dedication of the church for their Diamond Jubilee.
Civic leaders also recognized this important parish milestone. Following Mass, a representative of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors offered congratulatory remarks, and San Francisco Mayor London Breed sent a letter congratulating Father Remo and the parish.
The celebration comes ahead of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the church, which will be commemorated in 2025.
Following Mass, the guests gathered in the school gym for a luncheon organized by the Jubilee Committee.
