Youth Ministry

The Archdiocese of San Francisco supports youth ministry programs that foster the catechesis, moral, and spiritual formation of young people in Middle School through High School.

Our Goals

Guided by the USCCB’s document, Renewing the Vision (1997), our ministry has three goals:

To empower young people (ages 13-17) to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today;

To draw young people into responsible participation in the life, mission, and work of the faith community;

To foster the personal and spiritual growth of each young person.

To accomplish these goals, we offer training, community, workshops, resources, retreats, and collaboration opportunities for Youth Ministry Leaders within the Archdiocese, as well as training, retreats, catechetical events, leadership opportunities for youth themselves.

Genuine love is demanding. But its beauty lies precisely in the demands it makes. Only those able to make demands on themselves in the name of love can then demand love from others.

Silent Ignatian Retreat

5:30pm (08/05) – 12:00pm (08/11)
Cost: 1440
What is an Ignatian Retreat?

An Ignatian Retreat was conceived by Ignatius of Loyola., the founder of the Society of Jesus. Many people find this type of retreat very accessible because it is based on how God is active in our daily lives. Taking time to explore our lives using our imagination, we begin to find how “God is in all things”.

As we spend time with “God in all things,” a new experience of relationship begins to open up in us. We see how God is always extending love and friendship and we realize that God wants to be connected to us. On retreat, we take time to contemplate this connection with God through meditations and the assistance of a director, we begin to open our hearts to God.

What to expect on retreat:

Daily spiritual direction
Daily Mass
Time to explore our connection with God through silence, prayer, art, and nature
Spiritual Direction available in Spanish and English

Silence on the Retreat

Silence on the retreat helps each person to focus their attention on God’s action in their lives. The silence is a silence of consideration as such retreatants are asked to maintain an atmosphere of silence at meals and in the bedroom areas and outside. No phone calls within the building, please.

Satisfying Our Restless Hearts – A Professional Women’s Retreat

4:00pm (08/16) – 2:00pm (08/18)
Cost: 375
Are you happy, and is that even possible? This weekend retreat may be just what you’re looking for to help you in your journey as a professional Catholic Christian woman walking in this world. Based on the book Finding True Happiness by Fr. Robert Spitzer, S.J., Ph.D., the retreat workshops will introduce the Four Levels of Happiness, which Fr. Spitzer based on classical thinkers, contemporary philosophers and modern psychologists.

Through guided reflection, you’ll discover new attitudes and engage in exercises designed to lead you into deeper insights about happiness, and a fuller awareness of your complex self – one that seeks truth, goodness, love, beauty, harmony, and even transcendence. In small groups, you’ll participate in simple but meaningful prayer experiences, discover your own God-given gifts of creativity, experience the healing power of the Sacraments, and learn more about becoming the woman God created you to be – and the beautiful life He has in store for you! This practical but powerful retreat will lead you into a new perspective of freedom and true satisfaction – proving that yes you CAN find true happiness.

The retreat will be held at El Retiro Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos with arrival between 4-5:30pm on Friday, August 16 and departure by 2pm on Sunday, August 18. The retreat center usually celebrates mass at 5pm on Friday, you are invited to attend. Cost will be $375, which includes all of the supplies, presentation of the retreat, six meals, a private room and bathroom for the two nights, and 38 sprawling acres to wander and reflect. It’s an incredible opportunity to “come away” but not too far away!

This immersive silent Centering Prayer wisdom retreat is an invitation to enter the cave of our hearts, to listen deeply to its rhythm, and open to the guidance we discover within.
